There are a number of mentor and leadership programs serving the community. The Black Diamond's program difference is that we believe that there is significant value added with adult-role-modeling programs by offering a minority led program. It is inspiring to connect with successful people that you can relate to, not just in interests but they look like you.
We serve minority females between the ages of 13-18. This program is for young ladies of a variety of ethnic backgrounds, forming an alliance and network to support, advocate, and share in opportunities to make a difference in the world.
Our Minority Young Women's Leadership Fellowship is offered to the top 25 leading young ladies in the Saint Louis area.
The black diamond is unique, it is the toughest form of a natural diamond, absorbs light, and is made up of millions of smaller crystals. Although there are many theories of the black diamond we are only accepting the connection that minority young women are tough and full of wonderful gifts and light that can make their communities brighter.
Our leadership development program utilizes evidence-based practices including supportive psychotherapy, integration of training on seven components of resiliency and leadership skills development. Leading to our impact objectives for each young women in program:
1. Finding and using their voice.
2. Identifying ways to embrace the uniqueness of their ethnicity.
3. Skills in strategic decision-making.
4. Skills in value-based decision-making skills.
5. Express an improved sense of wellbeing and self-confidence.
6. Organizational skills.
7. Building skills in resiliency: competence, confidence, connection, character, contribution, coping, and control.
8. Identify a vision for themselves.
9. Access to a safe space network for support, connections, opportunity, empowerment and education.
If you believe that you have value to add and the heart of compassion to be a part of making a difference on one-to-one basis. Join our mentor program as a mentor, we only ask that you set aside time for at least 1 outing per month.
